With a construction rebound from the 2008 recession underway in Yorkville, commercial and residential development has boomed since 2013 with new construction permits averaging 120 per year for the past 5 years. The United City of Yorkville has begun the process of drafting a Unified Development Ordinance to consolidate all the City’s development ordinances into a single document to meet the needs of our growing community. A Unified Development Ordinance, or UDO, combines traditional zoning and subdivision regulations, along with other city regulations into a single document. The City is seeking to create an easy to use document which combines the Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Regulations, Landscape Ordinance, and Appearance Code.
The City issued a Request for Proposal in December 2018 for outside consultants to complete this project. After several layers of review by City staff and elected officials, the City contracted Houseal Lavigne Associates to complete the project. The consultant has set up a project website for the project which we encourage everyone to visit to stay up to date on the project:

The project is projected to be complete by the end of 2020 and finish the adoption process in early 2021. This project will require several rounds of review and revisions by staff, the appointed advisory committee, and elected officials. Please see the projected timeline of events below:
