A major goal of the award-winning 2016 United City of Yorkville Comprehensive Plan Update was creating a shared identity and sense of belonging among residents, many of whom live outside the historic core of the City in new developments. Promoting and enhancing downtown as the civic anchor of the City is a strong strategy to help with this goal. This project, the Downtown Overlay District Plan, also builds off the existing parking study, proposed Landscape Hill project, and wayfinding projects that are already underway.
The plan is separated into to sections, the Streetscape Master Plan which sets short-term and long-term goals for the publicly owned areas and the Form-Based Code which provides design standards and regulations for the private property within the downtown.
