The Planning and Zoning Commission is comprised of 7 members appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council. This commission is charged with providing recommendations to the City Council on zoning, special uses, Planned Unit Developments (PUDs), variances, and other development related matters. Often times, meetings contain a public hearing. It is at this time that the public has the greatest opportunity to have their voice heard. Members have all powers authorized by the Illinois municipal code and shall have jurisdiction over the corporate community and all unincorporated land situated within 1 and 1-half miles of the corporate limits. Furthermore, the commission is also authorized to prepare a comprehensive plan of future of land use and growth for the corporate community and unincorporated land situated within 1 and 1-half miles beyond the corporate limits.
