City Refuse Collection

Amount of Refuse Allowed

Under the city's refuse agreement with Groot, each residence is allowed to put out:

• One (1) 35, 65, or 95-gallon Groot refuse cart 
• One (1) 65-gallon recycling cart 
• One (1) large household item under 50 lbs (such as a boxes, furniture or crates) will be collected weekly without a prepaid sticker on the regular pick-up day only.

Refuse & Recycling Carts

Replacement and/or additional carts are provided by Groot. Residents may request an additional 35-gallon, 65-gallon, or 95-gallon refuse cart at an additional cost billed directly to the residents by Groot. Additional Containers

Additional containers may not exceed 35 gallons in size or 50 pounds in weight.

Discarded Carpeting

Carpeting is considered a bulk item; however, it must be cut and rolled in 4-foot lengths. Each roll must be tied and not weigh more than 50 pounds. Up to 4 rolls will be accepted as 1 bulk item.

Unacceptable Items

The following items will not be accepted during weekly collection:

• Construction/demolition materials
• Hazardous wastes (includes paints, oils, hot ash and flammable items)
• Large automotive parts
• Materials from floods, fires, or evictions
• Tires
• White goods (call for pick up options)

Prepaid Refuse Stickers

A $2 prepaid sticker is required for each bag or 35-gallon container outside the cart. Prepaid refuse stickers are sold at the following locations in Yorkville:

• Ace Hardware - 9620 Route 34
• Jewel-Osco - 234 Veterans Parkway

Collection Times

All refuse should be placed out for collection by 6 a.m. on the designated collection day. Groot may collect your items anytime between 6:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on your collection day. If items are missed, you will need to call Groot directly at 630-892-9294.
