Development Update
The 2021 building season has exceeded the development pace set last year! There were 295 new home construction building permits issued from January 2021 to August 2021 which includes 179 single-family detached and 116 single-family attached (townhomes) residential permits. This is compared to 162 new home construction permits this same period in 2020 representing an 82% increase! The subdivisions with the most construction activity during 2021 are: Grande Reserve (Single-Family), Raintree Village (Single-Family and Townhomes), and Prestwick at Ashley Pointe (Single-Family).
Overall, the City processed approximately 1,200 building permits since January 2021. Roofing and siding permits have returned to a typical level, approximately 163, much lower than the permits issued during the peak storm season of fall/winter 2019 and 2020, 440 and 300 permits respectively.
New commercial projects opened, under construction or approved include: Stretch Club (physical therapy clinic in Yorkville Marketplace); Juicehead Smoothies & Coffee Bar (café style beverage bar located downtown), Breathe Salt Therapy (therapeutic wellness center located in the Yorkville Business Center), Jay’s Seafood Grill (food establishment located in Cimarron Ridge) and The Ice Cream Place (frozen dessert shop located in Cimarron Ridge).
Finally, throughout the pandemic, the Building Department has continued to provide inspection services, in-person and virtually, while meeting COVID-19 protocols and guidelines. We still are encouraging residents and building professionals to utilize electronic building permit submittals.
