JOIN THE FUN & ADD A SCARECROW!

Coming this October! The Scarecrow Walk is back this Fall and we are inviting YOU to show off your creativity and submit a scarecrow! Individual families and businesses are encouraged and welcome to participate. Scarecrows can be simple, extravagant, spooky, or fun – be creative! Please note all scarecrows must be family friendly. If interested, submit your proposed design at https://bit.ly/YPRDscarecrowwalk. The Scarecrow Walk is located in the woods on the Eastern end of Riverfront Park (131 E Hydraulic Ave, Yorkville) and will be available beginning September 27th throughout the month of October. Yorkville Halloween Costume Contest and Halloween Egg Hunt on October 18th! Costume Contest at 6:30; Egg Hunt to Follow (approx. 7pm) at Town Square (301 N Bridge St)

The Halloween Costume Contest will be held on Friday, October 18 and will begin promptly at 6:30pm with the Halloween Egg Hunt immediately after around 7pm at Town Square Park (301 N Bridge St, Yorkville)! Get creative, have fun, and wear your best costume for the chance to compete in a friendly competition! While the Egg Hunt is for children ages 10 and under, the Halloween Costume Contest is for children and adults of all ages!

Awards will be given for the following categories:

  • Cutest
  • Spookiest
  • Most Creative (Child)
  • Most Creative (Adult)
  • Best Coordinated Group Costume
  • Best TV/Movie Character
  • Funniest

Halloween Egg Hunt begins immediately following the Costume Contest on October 18th.  The Halloween Egg Hunt is a spooky twist on an old tradition. Wear a costume, bring your flashlight and a container for eggs, and hunt in the darkness for toy filled eggs! It will be a spooktacular time you won't want to miss! This is a free event for children 10 and under.

2024 FLAGS OF VALOR

The Yorkville American Legion Post 489 invites you to honor our nation and all of the veterans who have served with the Yorkville Flags of Valor as American flags will be displayed at Town Square during the week of Veterans Day. A flag can be sponsored for $30 and will include a keepsake ribbon and personalized tag to honor a veteran (optional). Sponsorships must be received by October 23rd.  Flags will be displayed at Town Square (301 N Bridge, Yorkville) starting November 4 through November 15. This is an opportunity to recognize and honor a veteran or first responder in your life or support the hundreds of veterans in Yorkville and Kendall County. Everyone is welcome to participate. All proceeds will be donated to the Yorkville American Legion Post 489. To sponsor a flag or make a donation, complete and submit the sponsorship application form available at https://bit.ly/FlagsofValor, or contact the Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department at recreation@yorkville.il.us.

Gear up for the Yorkville Rudolph Run 5K on November 23 at 4:00pm—an event you simply cannot miss! Whether you're a seasoned runner or a spirited walker, this race promises excitement and camaraderie for all. Professionally chip-timed for accurate results, this non-certified race guarantees a memorable experience. Every participant will receive a race swag bag and a striking 3" custom finisher's medal to commemorate their achievement. Register by September 25 to score an exclusive Ugly Sweater Tech Long Sleeve shirt, adding a festive touch to your running wardrobe.

Looking for a more low-key race? Join us for the annual 1-mile Jingle Jog Family Fun Run on November 23 beginning at 2:30pm! Walk or run in your most festive attire for a chance to win the most festively dressed award in one of 3 categories - Adult (age 18+), Youth (17 and under), and Group! While this race is not timed, racers will receive a custom 3" Jingle Jog finishers medal, jingle bell, swag bag, and a cup of hot chocolate at the hot cocoa bar after the race. Register by September 25 to score this year’s commemorative ugly sweater long sleeve tech shirt!

Beyond the thrill of the race, you'll be contributing to a noble cause. A portion of the proceeds supports the Knights of Columbus Helping Hands Program, aiding in the purchase of food and toys for Kendall County families in need this holiday season. Join the Yorkville Public Library for Yorkville Then & Now, a look into Yorkville's Past! Thomas Milschewski, creator of the popular social media page Yorkville Then & Now, discusses and dives into a pictorial history of Yorkville, Illinois - gathering pictures and stories, compiling a collection of priceless memories! Started back in 2017, Thomas will discuss how he began the project, why he does it, and how he established a window into the past right here in his hometown. He will go into detail how he researches homes and the families that have lived in them overtime. Lots to see & discuss, you won’t want to miss this! Both presentations will be held on September 26 and the content will be the same, please register for one session.
