Youth Summer Basketball League Registration Now Open!

Looking to improve your basketball skills prior to the Winter Season? The Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration from March 27th – April 10th for the Youth Summer Basketball League! This program is designed to teach children the fundamentals of basketball. There will be a 5-game schedule with games played on Wednesday nights starting June 12 and concluding July 17 (No games July 4). Volunteer coaches are needed for teams. The registration fee includes a t-shirt, medal, and gym supervision. Please note the specific registration dates listed. Divisions are based off the 2023-2024 school year. PLEASE NOTE: the kindergarten-3rd/4th Grade divisions will have a 30-minute practice and 30-minute game for the first two weeks while all other divisions will have a 60-minute game every week. Players will be notified of their team assignment and schedule by Monday, June 3rd. Library Road Trip is Back! March 23^rd – April 30^th

Where will your adventure begin? Join us for the 2024 Library Road Trip starting March 23^rd! Passports will be available at the Yorkville Public Library, and at any participating library March 23-April 30. Visit as many of the participating libraries and get your passport stamped as you go, then return your passport to your home library by April 30^th for a chance to win prizes! A list of participating libraries, addresses, and a QR code to Google Maps will be printed on the passport to help you plan your road trip!

Book Your Table: A Tablescape Fundraiser for our Community! Saturday, April 6^th from 10am – 3pm at the Yorkville Public Library

Join us at the Yorkville Public Library on April 6 to enjoy 12 beautiful, creatively decorated tables designed by community members. All proceeds from this event benefit local charities, organizations, and the Library. Participants will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite table and support their favorite charities too! Tickets are $10 per person and will be available in advance at the Circulation desk inside the Yorkville Library, and at the door the day of the event. April is National Poetry Month!

Yorkville Public Library is hosting a poetry contest to highlight YOUR creativity. Poets of all ages are welcome to submit a poem on any topic and in a style of your choosing. The poem can be any length, type/form, and topic, but because we publish the poems for our community to read, the topic must be appropriate for a wide range of ages. By submitting your poem, you give permission to Yorkville Public Library to publicly post your poem. This contest is for children, young adults, and adults.

There are four age divisions for the contest:

• Age 6 years and younger

• Ages 7-12 years old

• Ages 13- 19 years old

• Ages 20 years and older

HOW TO ENTER:

Enter by submitting one copy of your original poem and contact information (Name, email, phone, age group) to the library by April 24 in one of the following methods:

Pickleball and Tennis Courts – Now Open!

Summer is the perfect time to explore new activities! Pickleball, a popular low-impact sport, is gaining popularity nationwide. In Yorkville, you can find pickleball courts at Rotary Park (2775 Grande Trail, Yorkville) and four additional pickleball courts at Raintree Park B (872 Prairie Crossing Drive, Yorkville) painted onto the tennis courts. The nets are all set up and ready for play! If you prefer tennis, the nets at Raintree Park B can easily be adjusted. City parks are open from sunrise to sunset every day. Pickleball rules are displayed at the entrance of the courts at Rotary Park.

This family-friendly fiesta will incorporate traditional Mexican music and performances as downtown Yorkville transforms into Yorkville's very own Margaritaville! Join us for an evening of Mariachi bands, dancing, family activities and more as we celebrate the arrival of Summer! PLUS! The Yorkville Bilingual Parents Advisory Council (BPAC) is hosting their annual Parents Day Picnic in conjunction with Margaritas en Mayo from 5:00-7:30pm at Riverfront Park!
