Riverfront Park Island Update 

In 2019, the IDNR closed the pedestrian bridge and island at Riverfront Park due to unsafe conditions.  In 2020, the state funded a permanent fix in the capital bill.  The City was recently informed, by the IDNR, that construction will begin on this area on Monday, July 18th. In addition to parts of the park being used as a staging area for the project, the whitewater course and portions of the riverfront sidewalk will be closed during construction. It is expected that the project will be completed by the end of the calendar year
