Development UpdateFrom September 2022 to February 2023, the City saw a lively construction season for new commercial construction and residential subdivision development. During this time, the City processed approximately 558 building permits. This included 183 new home construction permits consisting of 107 single-family detached and 76 single-family attached (townhomes) units. This represents an approximately 30% from this time last year. Moda Homes, a residential developer, was the largest contributor of the new home starts with the construction of townhome products in the Bristol Bay Subdivision. There are also new commercial building projects that will be opening in the near future: Scooters Coffee (beverage restaurant) is currently under construction at the southeast corner of IL 126 and IL 47 (former location of State Bank), while Station One Smokehouse (barbeque restaurant) in the Kendall Crossing development is nearing completion and slated to open later this year. Finally, the City also has recently approved development plans for a large-scale solar farm located near Beecher Road and the BNSF rail line on approximately 28 acres.
