VIRTUAL MAGIC CLASS WITH GARY KANTOR
Professional magician Gary Kantor now teaches his popular magic class ONLINE. This 45-minute online class teaches children how to perform a number of mind-boggling tricks using everyday household items. Gary will start by explaining the secrets to the tricks, and then both Gary and the children will practice everything together in great detail. The children will have a blast as they learn exactly what to say and do when performing in front of an audience. Since this class is online, it can be taken whenever it is convenient for your schedule. This online course is completed by watching pre-recorded videos which can be watched as often as you like. Once you register you will receive an emailed link to the class and the password to the videos. Your entire family can even take this class together! Class is recommended for ages for ages 5-12 and costs $13.

LEARN TO MAKE BALLOON ANIMALS WITH GARY KANTOR
Professional balloon artist Gary Kantor introduces a 45-minute online class that teaches children the techniques needed to take plain balloons and transform them into incredible balloon animals (like dogs, butterflies, fish, etc.). By watching these online videos children will create their own balloon animals, with Gary walking them through each step in the process. This class is not just for kids; parents will have a blast joining in on the experience! During this online course you can follow along with the pre-recorded videos and go at your own pace. Once you register you will receive a link and password for the videos via email. You will need to purchase your own balloons (Recommended: 260Q Latex Balloons) and balloon pump.
Join Ms Cyndi for an interactive and fun time at Virtual Kinderjam! Music, movement, learning and fun! KinderJam with Ms. Cyndi uses upbeat children’s music to introduce and reinforce basic preschool skills and concepts such as numbers, colors, shapes, letters and body parts. Children are up and moving as much as possible while using a variety of manipulatives that can be found easily in your home! Self-confidence and positive social and virtual interactions are encouraged as we sing, learn, and move our bodies! You will receive a Zoom link and printable class materials 1-2 days before the scheduled class date from the instructor. This is a parent/child program taught by Cyndi Huerter. This class is suggested for toddlers and costs $10 per family.
MARIO KART MONDAYS
The Yorkville Parks & Recreation Department is offering an opportunity for players of all ages to participate in Esport Mario Kart Mondays! We’ve all played the game growing up so now we want you to show off your skills by taking on fellow gamers to fight for first place! Please note the competition is specifically for Mario Kart 8 for the Nintendo Switch and all participants must have an online membership to participate. First place winners will receive a $20 Nintendo Switch gift card that can be used at the Nintendo Switch shop for additional game purchases! Registration is open April 23 – May 23 and is $15 to participate per session which will be held at 6:00pm on Monday, May 4th, May 11th, May 18th, & May 25th! Please note that registration is per individual session, and does not include all four dates.

VIRTUAL SLIME WITH LISA LOMBARDI COACHING
E-Learning is almost done for the year and school will be out! Have the slime of your life creating Mindful Slime with Coach Lisa Lombardi! We will please our senses and stay in the present. Any worries will be put aside as we have a blast creating STRETCHY SLIME, GOOEY OOBLECK, AND CLOUD DOUGH! Our slime creations will pop like fireworks, smell like summer and be colored to remind kids of the beach. This online experience will be a “one and done” encounter with a duration of about 30 minutes. As a virtual experience, you get to choose the date of class to fit your schedule! Once you register, you will receive a private link to access the class via YouTube anytime. Families have the option to email Coach Lisa during spring/summer with any questions!
The Science of Carnival Games, Fun House Mirrors, and the Concession Stand
STEP RIGHT UP….STEP RIGHT UP….WIN A “BIG PRIZE”, a carnival barker’s famous words! Carnival games have a rich history and are played not only at traveling carnivals, but also charity fundraisers, amusement arcades, and state fairs. Is there a science to winning these games OR is it all luck? Which games should we play for the best chance at winning? Are these games rigged to scam you? How can we use our communications skills to find out? We will turn into investigators and build confidence as we pull back the curtain on the amusement industry. Popular games explored: Balloon Darts, Ring a Bottle, Duck Pond, and Fool the Guesser. Next, we will learn why we look so wacky in Fun House mirrors and the science behind Pop Rocks, Root Beer, Popcorn, and getting rid of a BRAIN FREEZE. If you have M&M’s candy, get them ready….we will do the coolest experiment!
Learn how to play the piano! Private lessons are offered for beginner to advanced students in 30 minute weekly sessions. Lessons are tailored to meet different styles of learning to assure success. If you come with a desire to learn the music will follow! We will use color coded lessons for younger students to make learning fun. Come as a beginner or to resolve problems from previous lessons. Each mini-session will feature three 30-minute lessons. Lessons will be held virtually using Google Hangouts or Facetime. Each participant must have a full size keyboard or piano at home in order to have the most successful lesson. Register early, spaces fill quickly!
VIRTUAL ALL STAR T-BALL
T-Ball/Baseball can be a boring game if taught the wrong way! We will continue to bring our FUN All Star Approach to coaching online. Our coaching technique will provide basic building blocks to succeed at all levels. Players in this program will be more confident in this active class as we work on the proper mechanics of catching, throwing, fielding, base running, batting, and fun weekly class challenges. This fun and exciting program will prepare each player for the T-Ball, coach or kid-pitch leagues once we are able to take the field again!
VIRTUAL ALL STAR SOCCER
Still taught the All Star way, this program will keep everyone active and engaged both mentally and physically! Our virtual lesson plan is designed to teach the game by using FUNdamental drills and fun challenges while still engaging players at all times. We will cover simple foot skills, dribbling, passing, and shooting. This class will not only keep players active but will be a great base to prepare them to eventually hit the field again.
VIRTUAL ALL STAR BASKETBALL
Our Virtual program is designed to teach the game of basketball at a basic level while making sure players stay active and engaged the entire class! Basketball Fundamental and skill work will be covered to focus on basic mechanics to build confidence then adding fun challenges to keep participants engaged. We will cover dribbling, passing, and age appropriate shooting technique.

Benefit the body and mind through Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga is the most widely practiced form of yoga in America. Through breath, posture, and meditation participants will reduce anxiety as well as achieve physical goals. Create muscle tone and increase flexibility during poses that align the body. Participants should bring a yoga mat, towel, and water bottle to class.
We will be offering a live-stream class through Zoom, specific details will be e-mailed to participants after registration. If you have questions about Zoom or how it works, please contact Tyler Nelson (email@example.com).
Class will be held on Wednesdays from June 3-24 from 7:15pm-8:00pm. Registration is $20 for residents and $25 for non-residents and is available at Yorkville.il.us/register. We will continue to offer classes in this virtual format until we are able to meet again in person. We are optimistic that through this virtual format we can continue to engage you in your yoga practice and hopefully gain new attendees for when we resume in-person classes.
New for 2020, the Parks & Recreation Department will be starting May Miles, a fun program to encourage you to get outside and improve your fitness level! From May 1 – May 31 all residents are encouraged to get outside and track how many miles you and your family are able to walk/run or bike throughout town. This is a free event and no pre-registration is required. All you have to do is go for a walk, run or bike ride and email your total distance to Tyler Nelson (firstname.lastname@example.org). Please note that multiple distances and family member distances can be submitted within the same email. The distances will be logged and a leaderboard created! Our leaderboard will be e-mailed to program participants throughout the month and will be updated on the Virtual Programming Webpage. Final results will be sent to all participants on June 1. Although this is not an intense competition, we do hope that this leader board will inspire participants to achieve their fitness goals during this time.
Divisions will be separated into walk/run and bike distances. Participants can participate in both divisions if they choose to.

The Parks & Recreation Department is challenging you to get creative during your daily outdoor exercise by tracking your next run or walk and posting the image your route created in the comments below! Is it a plane, a tree, or TRex? Post the image and let us guess! Please make sure that all images are family-friendly.
We ask all residents to follow the Governor’s Executive Order and recommendations from the Illinois Department of Public Health when visiting a City park, open area or trail by not congregating in groups, washing your hands regularly and staying home if you are ill. NCG Yorkville Cinemas & United City of Yorkville Drive-In Movie
The NCG Yorkville Cinema and the United City of Yorkville are excited to host a Drive-In Movie on Friday, June 12! Grab the family, get out of your house and join us from the comfort of your car to watch The LEGO Movie on a 30-foot inflatable screen! The movie is scheduled to start at dusk (approximately 8:30pm) with the parking lot open for parking at 7:45pm. This event is free, however space is limited and pre-registration is required to reserve your spot. On-site registration will not be accepted the day of the event. Registration is currently open to all Yorkville residents with nonresident registration opening on June 6.
Please note movie participants must adhere to the following guidelines:
- All families must remain in their vehicles throughout the event.
- Viewing the movie from the open bed of a pickup truck/van or on top of vehicle is not permitted.
- Families are urged to utilize bathroom facilities before attending the event; however, portalets will be available for emergency cases.
