About Commissions and Committees

The following is a list of Commissions and Committees that comprise the United City of Yorkville. Commissions are volunteer-based, however an application is required and the Mayor approves appointments. To be considered for a commission, please download an application and return to City Hall by mailing to 800 Game Farm Road, Yorkville, IL 60560.

Committees are also volunteer based but do not require an application. New committees in the United City of Yorkville are always welcome. If you have an idea for a new committee, please contact Mayor Golinski at 630.553.4350. View the committee book and guidelines here.

Board of Fire and Police Commissioners:
The Fire and Police Commissioners meet on a quarterly basis. Meetings are held in the City Hall Conference room. Members are appointed by the Mayor and consist of three members. The board was created to manage the affairs of the municipal police department of the United City of Yorkville. In addition, the committee assumes all duties of hiring, discipline and retirement regulation for the successful operation of the Yorkville municipal police department. The board meets quarterly on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.

Cultural Arts Commission:

The United City of Yorkville Cultural Arts Commission was established in October of 2010 for the purpose of organizing and producing exhibition of works of art, programs of music and performing arts, establishment of museums, the exhibition of historical objects, the presentation of dramatic productions and other exhibitions and performances as deemed desirable to enhance the cultural and intellectual opportunities of the citizens of the City. The board consists of seven members with each member serving for three years. The meeting schedule for this commission has yet to be determined.

Human Resources Commission:
The Human Resources Commission was established in October of 1975 as a citizens' commission for the purpose of assessing and identifying issues within the community, which affect the social welfare of Yorkville citizens. The Commission's goal is to improve the quality of life and general welfare of the community. The Commission is composed of seven residents of the City, one of who is appointed as chairperson. The mayor, with the advice and consent of the City Council, makes the appointments to the Commission. Each member is appointed for a three-year term. Meetings are held monthly on the third Wednesday evening of each month at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Integrated Transportation Implementation Task Force:

This task force was created upon the adoption of the city's Integrated Transportation Plan. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday evening of the month before the EDC meeting from 6 - 6:30p.m. in the City Hall conference room.

Library Board of Directors:
The Library Board meets on the second Monday evening of each month, 7:00 p.m. at the Yorkville Public Library, 902 Game Farm Road. The mayor, with approval of the City Council, appoints a Library Board of nine directors chosen from city residents. The Library board makes and adopts bylaws, rules, and regulations for their own guidance and for the government of the library.

Park Board:
The Park Board meets on the second and fourth Thursday evening of each month, 7:00 p.m. at the Park office, 201 W. Hydraulic St. Members are appointed by the Mayor and consist of seven persons who shall serve as voting members. The board was created for the purpose of managing all city parks and recreational facilities and to handle all personnel concern, programs and budgeting necessary to operate the Parks and Recreation department of the United City of Yorkville.

Plan Commission:
The Plan Commission meets on the second Wednesday evening of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The Plan Commission meets to discuss and make recommendations for City Council consideration. Thirteen members comprise the Plan Commission. The mayor appoints members of the Plan Commission. Often times, meetings contain a public hearing. It is at this time that the public has the greatest opportunity to have their voice be heard. Members have all powers authorized by the Illinois municipal code and shall have jurisdiction over the corporate community and all unincorporated land situated within one and one-half miles of the corporate limits. The commission is also authorized to prepare a comprehensive plan for the corporate community and unincorporated land situated within one and one-half miles beyond the corporate limits.

Police Pension Fund Board:
The Police Pension Fund Board meets quarterly in the Yorkville Police Department conference room. For meeting dates and times check the agendas on this Web site under City Government. The Mayor appoints two members with the remaining positions being elected. The board exercises powers and performs duties that are required of them by law. All monies and securities belonging to the fund are held by the municipal treasurer subject to the order of the board of trustees of the pension fund. An annual list of beneficiaries and report of funds is made as required by law. Members of the board of trustees serve without compensation. The board meets quarterly on Tuesday evenings at 5 p.m.

Senior Ad Hoc Committee:

This committee addresses senior issues in the Yorkville Community. Meetings are held on the fourth Monday morning of each month at 8:30 a.m. at the Beecher Community Center, 908 Game Farm Road. Community members are encouraged to attend the meetings.

Zoning Board of Appeals:
The Zoning Board of Appeals commonly referred to as the ZBA is a seven member board of citizens, appointed by the mayor and city council, charged with hearing and deciding variances and appeals from the zoning and sign codes. The board meets on the first Wednesday evening of the month at City Hall, 800 Game Farm Road, to consider any cases that may be presented. The Zoning Board of Appeals meets on the first Wednesday evening of the month at 7 p.m. Additional information about the Zoning Board of Appeals is available by contacting City Hall at 630.553.4350.

Zoning Commission:

The Zoning Commission is responsible for recommending appropriate zoning regulations in addition to preparing a report and submitting a proposal for a new zoning ordinance. Following the preparation of the report, the Commission will conduct a public hearing prior to finalizing a recommendation to the City Council. Zoning Commission members are appointed by the Mayor.

Yorkville Green Committee for the Environment:
This newly formed committee is volunteer based and meets on the fourth Monday evening of each month, 7 p.m. at the Yorkville Public Library, 902 Game Farm Road. The committee meets to discuss, research and make recommendations for City Council consideration on environmental issues.
