From the desk of Bart Olson

Interim Director of Parks and Recreation

Spring/Summer 2010

The warm and sunny days of summer beckon us and anticipation is great for returning to the outdoor recreational activities we enjoy so much. The City of Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department wants to help.
Hundreds of enjoyable and affordable activities are offered annually through our recreation department, addressing many interests for all ages. The department is especially gearing up for an active Spring and
Summer.

The City’s 18th annual Hometown Days Festival will be held from Thursday, September 2 through Sunday, September 5 at Beecher Community Park. Last year’s event attracted a record number of attendees. This year the Parks and Recreation staff is planning many new attractions to make the event even more fun for people of all ages. The Hometown Days Festival schedule is listed on pages 2 and 3 of the 2010 Spring/Summer catalog. Stay tuned to the City newsletter and Web site for details on festival attractions.

The Music Under the Stars events for the summer are also bigger and better than ever! This year’s lineup includes The Waubonsee Community College Jazz Band, Parrothead Express, Saturday June Band, EPIC, and Lazy Maybes. In addition we will have a few “Wine Nights” scheduled during the Music Under the Stars Concerts this summer. The summer concert and wine nights schedule is listed on page 41 of the catalog.

The Parks and Recreation Department will also be participating in it’s third Community Park Build at Bristol Bay Park on Saturday, July 31. The park will have a circus theme. For those who participated in the past, we
hope to see you again. For those who may be interested in participating, no experience necessary, and welcomed to be a part of the build.

The city’s REC Center (202 E. Countryside Parkway) , a 38,000 sq. ft. leased fitness and recreation facility provides indoor recreation and health/fitness programs for the entire family that are moderately priced.
The facility includes a track, pool, gymnasium, cardio equipment, free weights, activity studios, and child care for facility users. For more information please turn to pages 7-18 or check out the new REC Center Web site at http://www.yorkvillereccenter.com/.
