The main responsibilities of the Engineering Department include the following responsibilities:

Subdivision and commercial development plan review
Preparing in-house plans for city-funded projects and supervising contractors' projects
Annexation agreement review
Providing assistance in developer/city negotiations
Supervising outside city consultants
Working with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) on water and sewer permits
Working with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) on roadway issues
Processing payouts and change orders
Oversight on new water and sanitary installations
Conducting sewer, water, storm, public walk, driveway approach and final inspections
Performing tests for new infrastructure
Mapping
Assigning new addresses
