Yorkville's Population Growth Between 2000 to 2008

The United City of Yorkville and Kendall County experienced record population growth beginning in the year 2000 to the year 2008. As reported by the U.S. Census Bureau, Kendall County was the fastest growing county in the nation from 2000 to 2007 with a 77.5 percent increase in population during this time period. In another report, the Census Bureau identified Kendall County as the fourth fastest growing county in the nation with a 45.8% percent increase in population from April 2000 to June 2005. An accumulation of these two reports show rapid growth in the county during a seven year period particularly from 2005-2007. The United City of Yorkville has exceeded this rate of growth with an 81 percent increase in population from 2000 to 2005. During a 15 year time span--1990 to 2005 Yorkville’s population increased 185 percent from 3,925 to 11,204. Yorkville's 2008 special census put the city's population numbers at 16,838.

Future projections

Following the 2005 Special Census the United City of Yorkville has projected the future population of the city based on the number of housing permits issued each year in addition to the average number of individuals per household. Based on these calculations, by the end of 2007, Yorkville had a projected population of 15,240 residents, a 10.6 percent increase from 2006 and a 36 percent increase in population from the last Special Census in 2005. In 2008 Yorkville's population was 16,838 as a result of a special census conducted in the same year.

Socioeconomic trends

The total amount of housing units and the occupancy and tenure rates of these units were reported during the Special Census. The results showed that over a five year period, housing units increased as follows: In 2000, the total number of housing units was 2,291; in 2003 there was an increase to 3,321 and in 2005 the number increased to 4,443. In a five year period total housing units in Yorkville increased 94 percent. This trend illustrates the substantial population growth that Yorkville has experienced during that time period.

Additional trends

Age Demographics: Throughout the last five years (2003-2005) the most notable trend when addressing age demographics in Yorkville is a 7.9 percent increase in the 20-24 age bracket and a 14.6 increase for individuals between the ages of 60 to 64.

Race: From 2003 to 2008 the city’s white population decreased by 4.4 percent in five years from 94.7percent of the population to 90.5 percent while the African-American and Other categories increased.
